Before and After Traditional Mixed Metal Kitchen Remodel
Creating A Traditional Mixed Metal Kitchen for a Normandy Place Neighborhood Home
We recently completed an exciting transformation of this Normandy Place neighborhood kitchen for our clients. They wanted to take their dated, dark, and cramped kitchen to a more traditional style with a bit of a twist. We presented them with a transformative design that delivered a bright, open concept with plenty of functionality, workspace, and visual interest.
A Clean, Open Traditional Style
We started by opening up space and removing walls to take advantage of the beautiful and dramatic 12-foot ceiling. As shown in the before pictures, you can see that the walls we removed were creating a confined space that took the visual interest away from the architectural drama the space offers. The dark wood cabinetry added to the cramped feeling of the kitchen
Once we removed the walls, the addition of the Shiloh beaded inset cabinetry painted soft white immediately gave the room a more open and clean feel. We added a major visual focal point with the 6-foot wide Shiloh range hood. To continue with the bright, airy feel, we installed Imperial Danby marble countertops and Sonoma Tile backsplash. This fabulous Vermont quarried marble completes the clean, classic look. It ties the design together, creating a bright and welcoming kitchen.
Beauty and Functionality
This is a real chef's kitchen. The SubZero/Wolf appliances not only fit in aesthetically, but they make cooking and working in this kitchen a joy! The stove features a custom look with upgraded brass knobs instead of the traditional Wolf red ones. It also features a brass backplate and brass lining. The Kalista pot filler and faucets in un-lacquered brass offer a warm contrast to the stainless steel range.
To keep the kitchen lines clean, the four Fisher & Paykel dishwasher drawers, SubZero refrigerator/freezer use matching cabinetry panels for a seamless and elegantly finished look. On the island, we included several appliances, including a microwave drawer and warming drawer, along with a convection steam oven.
Traditional... But With A Modern Mixed Metal Twist!
The Shiloh cabinetry and beautiful Imperial Danby marble countertops quarried in Vermont with its honed finish provide a stunning visual focus for the kitchen. The twist comes from the subtle use of mixed metals throughout the kitchen space. From the un-lacquered brass pot filler to the stainless steel Wolf range with custom brass accents are subtle kitchen jewelry that adds subtle visual interest.
On the cabinets, the homeowners chose burnished iron hardware from Rocky Mountain on the cabinetry, which ties in beautifully with the wrought iron railing leading up to the second level of the home. Finally, the Kalista faucets in un-lacquered brass and the Visual Comfort brass lighting add a final pop to the visual design of this luxurious traditional kitchen.
Space for Entertaining
The homeowner's love entertaining family and friends and the kitchen design needed to incorporate work stations to improve the flow when entertaining guests. We set up two areas in the kitchen to function as an additional workspace when entertaining. These include a wine bar featuring an under-counter wine fridge with plenty of marble counter space for uncorking and serving wine. Across the kitchen, we also installed a fully-functioning wet bar with an under-counter Scotsman ice maker for the inspired mixologist!
Additional Functional Storage Space In The Home...
Along with transforming the homeowner's kitchen, we did some additional work on several other areas of their home. We redesigned the laundry room to make it better match the kitchen design. We used the same Shiloh beaded insert cabinetry painted soft white. We also used the same Vermont quarried Imperial Danby marble for the countertops around the Rohl Shaw's Original farm sink. The Miele washer/dryer and SubZero glass front refrigerator make this room functional as well as beautiful. Every home needs storage, and we included tall pantry floor to ceiling storage opposite the appliances providing plenty of additional storage.
Along with the laundry room, we designed his and her's master closet space with a Vintage Finish with brushed brass hardware, and additional hidden storage space in the master bedroom for linens. This space is invisible, having been painted to match the walls. We opted to use Eclipse frameless cabinetry with touch-latch doors that swing open when gently pushed.
Opening up the space by removing walls and creating an exciting new floor plan provided our clients with a clean, bright traditional kitchen with a modern mixed metal twist. Their new kitchen is functional, large, open, and features improved flow, and additional workspaces perfect for entertaining family and friends.
Our creative approach to remodeling and design took their formerly cramped and dated kitchen space, and transformed it into a modern, comfortable showplace! Our laundry room update added extra storage with fall to ceiling pantry cabinets and additional cold storage. Finally, we updated and added other, much-needed storage in the master suite.
