Cabinet Personalization: Bring Your Vision to Life

Custom cabinets offer unparalleled personalization, allowing you to create a space that is truly tailored to your preferences and lifestyle. By selecting every detail, from the wood and finish to the hardware and layout, you can ensure your cabinets reflect your unique taste and meet your specific needs.

This level of customization not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of your home but also increases its functionality and value.

Type of Wood and Finish

The type of wood you choose can dramatically influence the look and feel of your cabinets. Whether you prefer the rich warmth of cherry, the classic appeal of oak, or the sleek modernity of maple, custom cabinetry allows you to select the perfect wood to match your vision.

Additionally, you can choose from a wide variety of finishes, including stains, paints, and glazes, to achieve the exact shade and texture you desire.

Cabinet Hardware

The hardware on your cabinets, such as handles, knobs, and hinges, may seem like a small detail, but it plays a crucial role in the overall aesthetic and functionality of your cabinetry. With custom cabinets, you can select hardware that complements your design style, whether it’s modern, traditional, rustic, or anything in between.

You can also choose the material and finish of the hardware to ensure it perfectly matches the rest of your home’s decor.

Cabinetry Layout

One of the most significant benefits of custom cabinets is the ability to design a layout that meets your specific needs. Whether you need extra-deep drawers for pots and pans, pull-out shelves for easy access, or specialized compartments for unique items, custom cabinetry allows you to create a functional and efficient space.

This means your cabinets will not only look beautiful but also enhance the usability of your kitchen, bathroom, or other living areas.

“I found inspirational pictures and I brought them to Toulmin. They were able to put my design into an AutoCAD program and I was able to see what the cabinets would look like in my house plan. When you build a custom home, you have all these ideas and inspiration pictures. Seeing it come to life in your own home is like a dream come true!”

Quality Craftsmanship: Cabinets Built to Last

Custom cabinets are an investment in quality. At Toulmin Kitchen & Bath, we pride ourselves on using the finest materials and partnering with the best cabinetry manufacturers to create cabinets that stand the test of time. Our custom cabinets are built with precision and care, ensuring durability and longevity.

Constructed using the best quality materials available

The majority of our cabinets are constructed of plywood. However, we offer budget-friendly options of high-quality particle board that are far superior to what you could buy at any big box store.

Manufactured in a controlled environment

Our cabinets are manufactured in a controlled environment, which allows us to maintain precise control over temperature, humidity, and air quality. These factors are essential for applying finishes, as they prevent issues such as bubbles, streaks, and uneven coloring that can occur in uncontrolled settings. The result is a flawless, consistent finish that enhances the beauty and longevity of your cabinets. Most local cabinet shops don’t have access to a controlled environment.

Finished with a high-quality catalyzed conversion varnish

Our cabinets are finished with a high-quality catalyzed conversion varnish that is favored by the industry’s best cabinet makers for its durability and flexibility. No other cabinet shop in Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, or Northpoint will use a better finish than what comes standard with all of our manufactured cabinetry.

The manpower and resources to shield your project from delays

Our manufacturers have the manpower and resources to protect your project from unexpected production delays. Because we work with large manufacturing facilities, your entire project won’t be delayed if one worker is out sick. You won’t have this same experience with a small, local cabinet shop.

We liked the cabinetry they use and we knew the quality would hold up for a lot of heavy kitchen use. They handled everything from start to finish, and the quality of the work in our kitchen was really great. We always felt we were getting the best job possible. Everything was even better than what we expected.

Maximizing Space + Home Value

Custom cabinets are designed to fit your space perfectly, making them ideal for maximizing storage and functionality. Whether you have a small kitchen that needs clever storage solutions or a large bathroom that requires a custom layout, bespoke cabinetry ensures every inch is utilized effectively.

Efficient Use of Small Spaces

In smaller kitchens or bathrooms, space is at a premium and every inch counts. Custom cabinets can be designed with clever storage solutions that make the most of limited space.

For instance, you can incorporate pull-out shelves, vertical dividers, and hidden compartments to maximize storage capacity. Custom cabinets can also be tailored to fit awkward corners or unique architectural features, ensuring no space is wasted.

Enhanced Accessibility

Custom cabinetry can be designed to improve accessibility, making it easier to reach and use your stored items. Features like pull-out shelves, lazy Susans, and soft-close drawers enhance functionality and convenience.

By tailoring the height and depth of cabinets to your preferences, you can ensure that everything you need is within easy reach, reducing strain and making daily tasks more efficient.

Versatile Solutions for Any Room

Custom cabinets are not limited to kitchens and bathrooms. They can be designed for any room in your home, including home offices, laundry rooms, and living areas. In a home office, custom cabinetry can provide organized storage for files, books, and office supplies, creating a productive and clutter-free workspace.

In a laundry room, custom cabinets can house cleaning supplies, laundry baskets, and even integrated ironing boards, making the space more efficient and functional.

Long-Term Value

Investing in custom cabinets enhances your home's functionality and aesthetics and increases its value, providing a significant advantage if you plan to sell in Birmingham's competitive real estate market.

Custom cabinetry is built to last, with high-quality materials and craftsmanship ensuring durability and longevity. This makes it a worthwhile investment that can increase the overall value of your property.

First and foremost, the kitchen renovation was about utility, function, and maximizing the space. Toulmin Kitchen & Bath was my first choice because I needed a kitchen designer. We were changing the space, and they are one of the only companies in town that has true kitchen designers.

The Cabinet Process: From Design to Installation

At Toulmin Kitchen & Bath, we strive to make the cabinet process as smooth and enjoyable as possible. To help you understand what to expect, we’ve outlined a step-by-step guide that takes you from the initial design phase to the final installation. This comprehensive approach ensures that every detail is meticulously planned and executed, resulting in custom cabinets that perfectly match your vision and needs.

Step 1: Initial Studio Visit

The first step in creating your dream custom cabinets is to schedule an appointment with our expert design team. You can easily book a consultation through our website or by calling our design studio at (205) 579-9906.

During this initial meeting, we’ll discuss your ideas, preferences, and specific needs, laying the foundation for a personalized cabinetry solution that perfectly complements your home. This appointment marks the beginning of a collaborative journey towards transforming your space with beautifully crafted custom cabinets.

Step 2: In-Home Design Consultation

If we seem like a good fit for your project, the next step is to schedule an in-home design consultation. While our designers are in your home, we’ll measure your space, take photos, and start the conceptual process.

There is a small consultation fee to cover the time and travel of the designers to visit your home and develop a preliminary space plan. Before we leave, we’ll schedule an in-studio meeting to present a rough scope of work, initial design concept, and preliminary estimate.

Step 3: Preliminary Review Meeting

Approximately 2 weeks after your in-home design consultation, we will have a meeting at our studio to discuss the following:

  1. Preliminary space plan drawings and preliminary material selections

  2. The scope of work for your project

  3. Preliminary project pricing & budgets

Step 4: Design & Selection Phase

Once you decide to move forward with your project, we require a design retainer, which covers the following: revisions to the design, including final material selections, development of construction drawings, and creation of formal proposal & acceptance.

The design retainer amount varies, depending on the size and scope of your project. This retainer is used as a credit toward the final payment of your project.

Step 5: Construction & Installation Phase

When work is ready to begin, we will:

  1. Arrange the removal of existing cabinetry and appliances and perform any demolition, if necessary.

  2. Make arrangements with your builder, architect, or designer to coordinate the installation.

  3. Provide project management services, if needed, to ensure that everything runs smoothly and on schedule.
