Normandy
Kitchen Design + Cabinetry
Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Nestled in the sought-after Northriver Yacht Club neighborhood of Tuscaloosa, this project is a testament to the blend of timeless style and contemporary flair. Mary Lauda Crenshaw, our lead designer at Toulmin Kitchen & Bath, collaborated with Bardenwerper Construction on the Normandy project to transform a once gloomy and confined kitchen into a stunningly bright, expansive, and modern culinary space.
Kitchen Cabinetry
For the remodel, the homeowner chose exquisite Shiloh cabinetry from Toulmin Kitchen & Bath that perfectly complements the kitchen's lofty 12-foot ceilings. Finished in the crisp and clean shade of Polar, these cabinets extend up to 10 feet, ensuring they enhance rather than overpower the space. The cabinet layout features a mix of drawers and doored cabinets, providing visual interest and versatile storage solutions.
The kitchen cabinetry features a stylish beaded inset detail, adding an element of depth and sophistication to the space. Cabinetry panels discreetly conceal the Fisher & Paykel dishwasher drawers and SubZero refrigerator to maintain a sleek and integrated look.
The kitchen island is adorned with reeded, turned furniture legs, introducing a classic, crafted look that beautifully ties together the room's aesthetic.
The cabinets are adorned with Rocky Mountain Hardware, selected to match the existing hardware on all interior doors for a unified look.
Countertops & Backsplash
In the Normandy kitchen, the countertops are crafted from Imperial Danby Marble with a honed finish, lending a touch of understated elegance and sophistication to the space. Behind the impressive 60” Wolf dual fuel range, a decorative curved backsplash detail adds a unique artistic touch, enhancing the overall aesthetic. Along the perimeter wall behind the kitchen sink, handmade subway tiles from Sonoma Tilemakers offer a subtle texture and bespoke charm, beautifully complementing the luxurious marble countertops throughout the kitchen.
Visual Comfort Lighting
A 6-light gold Visual Comfort Darlana Large Linear Lantern fixture is perfectly centered above the kitchen island to cast a warm, inviting glow over the area. Complementing this centerpiece, two gold 2-light wall sconces with chic white shades are symmetrically placed on either side of the classic white vent hood, just above the curved marble backsplash.
Plumbing Fixtures
The pot filler, main sink faucet, and bar faucet are from Kallista. The plumbing fixtures' unlacquered brass finish is designed to patina over time, enhancing the warmth and character of the metal. The rich, golden hues of the unlacquered brass fixtures complement the overall kitchen decor and offer a classic look that ages beautifully, ensuring that the kitchen remains functional and stylish through years of use.
